Everything the box does, on and off the network

ScoreRelay is designed so the venue owns its data. Local APIs work with no account, the device is configurable from any browser on site, and firmware updates install over the air.

Local data access, no cloud required

Everything a scoreboard app needs lives on the venue network. Point a client at the device IP and start reading live game state in seconds.

  • REST API: GET /state returns the current game as JSON, with endpoints to list and switch controller configurations
  • TLS TCP feed (port 1010): line-delimited JSON updates authenticated with an API token, up to four concurrent clients
  • Efficient by design: updates publish when the game state changes, plus a one-second heartbeat when idle
  • MQTT ready: publish each field to the ScoreRelay cloud with retained messages so new subscribers get current values immediately

A web interface built into the device

Every ScoreRelay runs its own status, configuration, and update pages. Open a browser on the venue network and the device explains itself.

  • Status page with connection badges, live scoreboard table, firmware version, uptime, and raw controller data for debugging
  • Settings page picks manufacturer, model, sport, and input type from cascading dropdowns, then applies the change instantly
  • Wi-Fi page scans nearby networks for cable-free setups
  • First-run setup hotspot walks you through joining the venue network from a phone
  • All settings persist on-device and survive reboots

Security treated like it matters

A device on the venue network holds keys to your game data, so it ships locked down rather than open.

  • Forced password change on first login; the default password cannot be kept
  • Passwords stored as salted HMAC-SHA256 hashes, never in plaintext
  • API tokens for programmatic clients over HTTPS and the TLS TCP feed
  • A unique TLS certificate per device with a visible fingerprint to verify
  • CSRF-protected browser sessions, session limits, idle timeouts, and login lockout after repeated failures
  • USB serial recovery command resets access if a password is ever lost, without exposing settings remotely

Firmware that improves over the air

New decoders, sports, and fixes arrive as signed release builds. The device checks, reports what is available, and installs without opening a case.

  • One-tap update check and apply from the device's own OTA page
  • Current version and availability shown alongside connection status
  • Remote check and apply from the cloud portal when a unit is off-site
  • Decoder maintenance continues after purchase: controller protocols are an ongoing project, not a snapshot
